February 2023
The House of Representatives hit their
first deadline, the last day for sponsorship of bills before the seven-bill limit begins. Last day for introduction of bills is Monday, February 6th. Two full weeks in session and House Representatives have dropped 539 bills and I am expecting at least 300-400 more by deadline.
The Senate is a little slower off the
line with only 62 bills introduced in
the first two weeks. But the Senate has
a later deadline for bills.
Representative Matt Gress (LD-4) has
sponsored and introduced our first bill of the session. HB2419 – moving violations; injured pedestrians; penalties. This will increase penalties for someone who was cited for a moving violation such as running a red light, etc and causes injury or death to a pedestrian, bicyclist, or motorcyclist. Representative Gress is a active motorcyclist and knows how much
ABATE is trying to mitigate injuries and
fatalities. This act may be cited as "Kong's Law" in memory of Greg “Kong” Dilley. Kong was the ACMC lobbyist for a few years with me at the Capitol. He was a founding member of the Leathernecks MC
and an ABATE member.
Hopefully, this bill will be a constant
reminder to watch out for motorcycles.
Don’t forget the 3rd Annual Kong’s Poker
Run will be on February 189th starting at VFW Post 720 (4853 E Thomas Rd) at 9a. Hope to see y’all there.
